http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?25385-1942-Unaccounted-Airmen-Database-Reconciliation&p=147195#post147195
The inquest into his death was reported in the Leicester Evening Mail, October 13th 1942. His motorcycle collided with an RAF van, and he died in hospital the next day from his injuries. The inquest heard that he cut a corner and was on the wrong side of the road when he collided with the van. A verdict of Accidental death was recorded by the Coroner.

Hi Paul, on the data base, he is listed as being lost on BOTH vessels ! It’s an error perpetuated elsewhere in the RAF commands database although I’ve not checked them all . For example Alfred Walter Gilbert 636979 is listed as dying in LST420 in 1944, when he’s buried in Lille Southern cemetery with a date of death of 25/06/1940 !
In the SS Lancastria roll of honour , Stanley Mills is NOT listed on it
It’s confusing, taking one man at random and looking him up . Alexander Crabbe Fleming 743827, he’s listed on the Lancastria roll of honour but is officially described as dying in France of enemy action with a presumed death of 25/06/1940 .

I agree he was probably, almost beyond doubt on the Lancastria but there is NOTHING other than what I posted as an example in his official record. It’s being on the Lancastria or inland cemeteries miles from the sea &/ or on the LST420 4.5 years later that leapt out at me Paul !

Edward Wilson 982554 , attached to Number 2 AGS, was lost in Anson L9148 off Fishguard. It is unknown why he is not mentioned in AIR 81 / 9691 or for the discrepancy in his date of Death which has been raised with the CWGC.
The Edward Wilson in the GRO register of BMD listed for December 1941 as dying in Winchester, is in fact Signalman 2353651 edward Wilson of the Royal Corps of Signals who was killed on the 6th November 1941 on the Winchester by pass road when a lorry hit his bicycle. In the most recent tranche that I processed there were a couple of entries that had me thinking.
Both were of aircrew who baled out and were injured/wounded.. and had to be discharged after ailing for months/years. finally succumbing to their injuries. One of them was bomber crew held as a POW.. another was a test pilot who baled out of a spitfire. Their death occurred atleast two to three years after the catalyst event. Should we 'tie' these entries with an aircraft serial?

Bombed and sunk by Japanese planes in the Durian Strait on the 14th. Forty got away in a lifeboat, but 10 died while trying to land at Sumatra. Regardless, in official RAF documents and terminology, all Airfield Construction Sqns were numbered in the 5000 series, not 6000, which was allocated to Flights.
The SD161 definitely quotes that 6021 was a BD Flt but was under the control of No 5134 ACS at the time.
It wouldn't be the first time a clerk in the Records Office entered incorrect details, which then got passed on to CGWC

From Kenley Revival on Facebook
AC1 Albert John Asker’s ( Service Number: 1447285 ) death, on 20th September, 1942, is recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, but the cause would have remained a mystery, had it not been for one of Kenley’s Canadian pilots – P/O Allister McClean Skinner, of 402 Squadron (RCAF) who wrote in his diary:
"had quite a shock this A. M. At 5.30 was walking to my kite when an RAF chap on the sq walked into a prop on “A” [Flight] and was killed. Sqn collected £35 for his wife and family."

No other head injury was found on x ray and he could take fluids, but developed some flaccid paralysis of his left arm and leg which diminished on 4 October. At 16:45 Hours he became very irritable and the paralysis returned but a pain test could be observed to work in an otherwise comatose counternance . An exploratory operation was undertaken at 17:45 hours under Pentothal N2 O plus O2 and his skull opened to find an extra dural clot and his meningeal artery was torn and still weeping. The operation was concluded but he soon became rapidly worse , and died at 22:55 hours with a temperature of 104 .
