DANIELS, Sidney Patrick, W/C, DSO, DFC (81676, Royal Air Force) - No.35 Squadron - Bar to Distinguished Service Order - awarded as per London Gazette dated 29 September 1944.
This officer has completed a third tour of operational duty, during which time he has completed many sorties against strongly defended targets in Germany. He has pressed home his attacks with the greatest determination and his coolness and courage in the face of enemy fire have been most inspiring. He is a highly efficient squadron commander whose sterling qualities have impressed all.
Recommendation drafted 21 July 1944 when he had flown 87 sorties (517 hours) including 25 sorties (123 hours) since previous award. Found in Air 2/9159. Transcribed by Huguette Mondor Oates.
This officer has now completed a third tour of operations. Since assuming command of his squadron, he has carried out many sorties against heavily defended targets in Germany. He has also fulfilled the role of Master Bomber on many attacks against targets in occupied territory. His courage, cheerfulness and determination have been an inspiration to all and the cool courage with which he pressed home his attacks despite opposition from ground defences has set a fine example to the whole squadron. He has proved himself to be a capable squadron commander and an outstanding operational pilot. In recognition of his fine achievement, he is recommended for the immediate award of the Bar to the Distinguished Service Order.
