Hi Henk
Kates,21,registered at New Forest, Hampshire,
Sanders,is registered at Dover. He died on Blenheim Z6271, which was attacking the airfield at Mardijk, and was attacked by Me109's. It crashed at Dover on return with the loss of Sanders(KIA) and with Sgt A Ballands(pilot) and Sgt R Yorke(Obs) reported in Warner as safe. The op was Circus No 20.
Ewers didn't show on the register

There is a Henry R EWERS aged 20 registered at Pershore in Q2 1941 - may have preferred to be known by his 'second' foreanme? Doesn't fit with any of the proposed losses though.

David

Hi Henk
David's find is the right age according to CWGC who have his forenames as Robert Henry

Thanks Dick. I must have been half asleep when I replied last night. I'd checked CWGC to get Ewer's age and second name (hence the comment about being known by his second name) but forgot to include the fact!

Regards,

David

Thanks friends for all your help.
Dick: Sgt SANDERS may have been killed (mortally wounded) during the Bf 109s attack. Sgt Ballands may have emergency landed at Dover. Blenheim Z6271 could be repaired; transferred to 42 OTU and later to Admiralty (25-5-1944).
Regards,
Henk.

Henk you could be correct, Warner reports Sanders as KIA and the a/c as Crash Landed

Ewers and Kates are both DOAS listings.

I can't find Sanders but he is either KIA or Died of Wounds etc.

This aircraft was being flown by SqnLdr Kirby C.472 when the undercarriage jammed up and wouldn't lower no matter the attempted. Aircraft was belly landed at Bottisham 23/6/41
