If you can get hold of "Burma Liberators - RCAF in SEAC" (2 volumes) by John R. W. Gwynne-Timothy, thn that's a good start. Though the focus is the RCAF squadrons it also covers some of the other Liberator operations

Hi Mark,

Not a book but you can find a lot of information on ROBERT QUIRK'S HOME PAGE (http://www.rquirk.com/seac.html)

Two books I have by Martin Bowman are Crowood Aviation Series Consolidated B-24 Liberator ISBN 1 86126 709-6 and
The B-24 Liberator 1939-1945 published by Wensum .ISBN 0 903619 27 X

Both books give some details of Pacific operations. The Crowood Press publication was pub. in 1998 & has an index & the B-24 Wensum pub. in 1979 .

Thank you all for your suggestions. The Gwynne-Thomas book seems very hard to come by and volume 2 impossible (Can anyone tell me what the two volumes cover? Is it worth getting just volume 1?) What I am looking for is details of how the operations were carried out. I am familiar with BC operational procedures and am interested in finding out more about the far eastern bomber war

Many thanks again

Mark,

A number of secondhand copies, including some two-volume sets', are advertised as available at www.bookfinder.com

My uncle - Cecil John Braitwaite (aka Brock) died a couple of years ago but had spent most of the war in SE Asia flying numerous types including B-24's, Wellingtons, Blenhiems and Dakotas (dropping supplies to the Chindits as well as recovering POWs as their camps were overun) and had only just started talking about his experiences - though never spoke about the POW sorties...

One of the things he did say was that allied Catalinas flew predetermined routes over costal areas each morning to try and locate/pick up ditched aircrew from the previous days Ops...

Its not much help I know but hope its useful...
