Henk,

you can discount Gladiator N5716 as the pilot, Noel Francis, survived when the aircraft overturned on the beach. He was killed in 1941.

Interestingly Clarke isn't listed in the squadron site's Roll of Honour:

http://www2.bc.edu/~emerypa/254/roh.html

I wonder if they've got the squadron wrongon CWGC. I noted four mistakes earlier today for two mosquito losses in 1945, so wouldn't be surprised.

Patrick F Clarke is listed on the GRO WAR DEATHS R.A.F.ALL RANKS (1939 to 1948).
The unit is listed there as 254Sqn.

Thanks all for your help. CLARKE (546660) will remain on my "unaccounted" list, but for sure more RAF Commands Forum visitors will start searching for him now.

Henk.

Hi

I can't remember where I got it from but I have Clarke as being killed whilst flying in Sunderland I, N9028 'A' of No 204, Sqn, on escort duty when a long burst of fire from a Do-18 ripped apart his turret.

I took 254 as being a typo for 204 at the time.
