What caused the death of the following airmen killed on active service (Flight Global):
Sgt (Wop/Ag) Patrick F. CLARKE - 546660 - Flight Global: killed in action (while flying in operations against the enemy) - 254 Sqn (Blenheim - Sumburgh/Shetlands), buried Lerwick New Cem., Zetlandshire (UK8375), and
Sgt (Nav) Irving H. GUDDON - 741041, buried Medstead Cem., Hampshire (UK4873), and
Sgt (Pilot) Charles B. HAZEL - 517158, buried Southend-on-Sea (Sutton Road) Cem., Essex (UK3614), and
Sgt (Wop) James P ROSS - 625019, buried Urmston Cem., Lancashire (UK864), and finally
Sgt (Pilot) William R. SPEIR - 580985, buried Ayr Cem. (UK7699).
Aircraft losses for this day:
Anson I - K6272 - SAN - crashed on approach Adamton House, Monkton, Ayrshire
Audax I - K3093 - 7 FTS - crashed in forced landing Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire
Gladiator II - N5716 - FF Shetlands - crashed in forced landing Haroldswick, Unst, Shetlands
Hart Trainer - K6469 - 12 FTS - crashed on landing Grantham
Monospar ST-4 - X9367 - 6 AACU - crashed in forced landing Congleton, Cheshire
Oxford II - N4767 - 14 FTS - crashed take-off at night Cranfield
Shark II - K8901 - TTU - crashed in forced landing 2 miles NNE of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire.

Henk,
you can discount Gladiator N5716 as the pilot, Noel Francis, survived when the aircraft overturned on the beach. He was killed in 1941.

I am unable to find Clarke in the death registers.
The other four you name were in the Anson K6272.

Interestingly Clarke isn't listed in the squadron site's Roll of Honour:

I wonder if they've got the squadron wrongon CWGC. I noted four mistakes earlier today for two mosquito losses in 1945, so wouldn't be surprised.

Patrick F Clarke is listed on the GRO WAR DEATHS R.A.F.ALL RANKS (1939 to 1948).
The unit is listed there as 254Sqn.

Sergeant P F Clarke:
report of death; Blenheim R3827 in air operations, 21 June 1940
As R3827 crashed on take off 4 March 1941 presume CLARKE was brought back dead or dying from a mission.

Hi
I can't remember where I got it from but I have Clarke as being killed whilst flying in Sunderland I, N9028 'A' of No 204, Sqn, on escort duty when a long burst of fire from a Do-18 ripped apart his turret.
I took 254 as being a typo for 204 at the time.

JONES, Hugh Thomas - He was serving with No 28 Sqn, and died at Miranshah.
BROWN, Charles William - He was serving at RAF Leuchars where he died from respiratory failure
