In the evening of 7 Oct 1944 Mosquito MM512 of No 409 Squadron reportedly (see e.g. Shores & Thomas, 2nd TAF, Vol. 2) was shot down by own Allied AA fire somewhere NE of Oostende (Ostend), Belgium.
Canadian crew P/O Norman Joss and P/O Peter Lailey are commemorated at the Runnymede Memorial.
Who has more details about this? If Allied AA unit was indeed involved, then incidentally Canadian? Area was liberated by Canadian troops less than a month before...
