Many thanks one and all, my interest was triggered by the programme on Night Intduders on Discovery Channel last night and the fact that following the "Wings for Victory" campaign during the war years it was G/C Pickard who came to our home town to present the plaque of appreciation from the Ministry of Aircraft production.

Thanks again

I watched that too. Though I found the interviews with Bannock etc very interesting I was screaming at the tellie at the Discovery Channel's usual terrible attention to detail when choosing film clips - a Beaufighter clip when talking about Mossies? FW190s when talking about radar equipped German night fighters? And I could swear that there was even a shot of an A-20 Havoc!!

Like Amrit says interviews were great but these sort of programs are produced for a more general market and it appears that any old bit of film will do and they don't worry too much about facts. What almost caused me to switch it off was the statement that "the first Mosquito intruder operation was carried out in Sep 41". The first ever operational Mosquito sortie of any type was carried out by 1 PRU in Sep 41.

Still worth a watch for the for the veterans interviews.
