Sgt (Pilot) Francis H. BARON - 1167725 - 250 Sqn (El Chel 2, Libya), buried Tripoli War Cem.
Looking for his aircraft serial. It's known that 250 Sqn lost Kittyhawks III FR244 and FR321 (FR244 pres. shot down by Bf 109s near Chiurgia; FR321 lost with no further details).

Regards and thanks,
Henk.

Henk

SGT Baron was flying FR244 coded LD-X when he took off as part of 12 aircraft escort to 2 TACR Hurricanes of 40Sqdn SAAF at 1510hrs for Recce over Front lines. 250Sqdn reported that 2 Bf109's were encountered, 1 being damaged by PltOff Collier.

This aircraft was believed shot down by a Bf109 of JG77, along with that of PltOff S Holland who was flying FR321 coded LD-R.

There are 10 men named Holland/Hollands on this list provided by the forum moderator Ross:

http://www.rafcommands.com/Air%20Force%20PoWs/RAF%20POWs%20Query%20H_1.html

perhaps someone can clarify whihc one of these might be Holland lost in North Africa? None of them are an S Holland it must be noted.

At that time in January 1943, there were three officers named S... Holland in teh RAF

Only one seems to be a Pilot Officer rank, S W C Holland 120529, he might be missing from those lists due to being a prisoner of the Italians rather than the Germans?

thE London Gazette website SEARCH TELLS ME THIS OFFICER WAS STANLEY WILLIAM CHARLES HOLLAND.

Oh and Edith, if you back on, please Please don't use the quote function when replying, hate to see all the same text repeated everytime a reply is given.
