there is a 20 year old Margaret Booth registered dead in the Thornbury district, Gloucestershire but its a 2nd Quarter registration which is quite a bit on in the year, even if there was some delay in the registration.

Beaufighter VI.F X8165 of 227 Sqn based at Ta'Qali, Malta, lost this day on an intruder mission near Gabes, Tunisia. Buried in the Sfax War Cem. is F/O (Pilot) George H. STEAD - 123306 (listed by CWGC as 272 Sqn - both sqns were at that time based at Ta'Qali). It is possible that F/O Stead was attached to 227 Sqn or X8165 on loan to 272 Sqn.
Looking for name and fate of the navigator.
Regards and thanks for your help.
Henk.

Hello
AC2 Brian T. BALLINGER - 1656807 - Richmond in North Yorkshire, not Richmond, Surrey. The Gloucester Citizen of January 21st 1943 carried the following announcement:
BALLINGER - January 20th, at Catterick Military Hospital, suddenly from meningitis, Brian T. Ballinger, R.A.F., aged 21, dearly beloved husband of Jacqueline, dear daddy of baby Susan, and youngest son of the late A. E. Ballinger and Mrs. Ballinger, of Pitchcombe.
ACW2 Margaret BOOTH - 2079016 - the Western Daily Press of March 6th 1943 reported the following:
W.A.A.F. SHOT WITH RIFLE
Soldier Bound Over at Gloucester
Charged with the manslaughter of a W.A.A.F. by shooting her with a rifle, Georgies Loez Perdicou (25), A.A. gunner, was at Gloucester Assize yesterday, bound over for a year and discharged.
Mr. Field, prosecuting, said Perdicou went to have a chat with a friend, who was acting as sentry at the entry to a site.
Some W.A.A.F.s who had been visiting a nearby hut approached the sentry box. Perdicou picked up the sentry's rifle, and pointed it at one of the W.A.A.F.s, named Maragret Booth.
The rifle went off, and Miss Booth was shot and killed. Mr. Justice Charles said Perdicou had doen a very silly and stupid thing. There was so much of a pure accident about the matter that he thought he would do justice by not sending Perdicou to prison.
Regards
Simon
