You did not indicate how I was to reply to the message you left with me today, so I use the Forum itself to reply - rather incompletely, as it turns out:

JAMES, Richard Gostwycke, A/G/C (23169, Reserve of Officers) - Headquarters, No.83 Group - Officer, Order of the British Empire - awarded as per London Gazette dated 14 June 1945. As Flight Lieutenant, posted to RAF Station Turnhouse, 10 October 1936. Public Record Officer Air 2/9056 (courtesy of Steve Brew) has citation. Mutilated document and hence words missing.

Group Captain James has served as the Senior Medical Officer at this Headquarters for the past 22 months. Since D Day he has been responsible for the very ... cooperation with the Army in arranging the air evacuation of many thousands of wounded back to this country. In particular, during the difficult days ... establishing the beachhead, he performed his exacting duties with the greatest efficiency. At all times Group Captain James has shown great enthusiasm and meticulous attention to detail in looking after the health and welfare ... Group as a whole and, by his untiring efforts, he has materially helped ... a high standard of fitness and morale. His selfless devotion to duty has been most praiseworthy
