What were the places of death registration for:
A - Died of wounds or injuries received on active service:
AC1 Ernest KNOWLES - 976710 - age 22, and
Sgt (WOp/Ag) William F. MARSHALL - 1576777,
involved in accident 10-4-1943 ??
B - Died on active service:
W/O Alexander TURNER - 591059.
C - Looking for GRO-listing for:
F/O Lacombe A. McCOY - 130839 (from Dominica), and
F/Lt Michael H.A. PHILLIPS - 84294,
both names commemorated on the Malta Air Forces Memorial.
D - Proposed aircraft losses:
Magister I - P6400 - 2 FIS - crashed in forced landing West Caimbeg FLG, Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire.
Master III - W8561 - 5 (P)AFU - crashed on take-off Chetwynd.
Master III - DL767 - 430 Sqn - crashed in forced landing 1˝ mile SW of N.Cornelly, Glamorganshire.
Proctor III - HM428 - 2 SS - crashed in forced landing Old Hayward Farm, near Hungerford, Berkshire.

Marshall died of injuries resulting from the crash of Anson EG361 on Lord's Seat near Keswick in the Lake District.
The following are the entries from the 5 AOS Record Book
April 8th 1943, “Anson EG305 piloted by Sgt Robinson and Anson EG361 piloted by Sgt Motby reported missing.”
April 8th 1943, SSQ, “Anson aircraft G3 & D3 reported missing.”
April 11th 1943, “Anson EG361 located, all crew killed.”
April 11th 1943, SSQ, “Information received to the effect that Anson aircraft D3 discovered 10-4-43 in Cumberland hills near Keswick. All occupants received multiple injuries resulting in death, except Sgt Marshall who died at 08.00 hrs 11-4-43 after transfer to Civil Hospital.”
And this is from the No.2 (O)AFU ORB
April 10th 1943, SSQ, “##### the 14.00 hrs detail on Thursday 8.4.43 was reported found on Lords Seat Hill, 8 miles N.W. of Keswick. F/O Crane proceeded in the ambulance to the spot arrived at 23.00 hrs. Of the crew of five, one man, 1576777 Sgt Marshall, W. was found to be still alive and he was removed to Keswick Cottage Hospital, where he died next day at 8.55 hrs, from fractured skull, shock & exposure. The remaining four members of the crew, J14740 P/O Finbow H. R118358 P/O Duff R.A. 934034 Sgt Cooney J. 657929 Sgt Motby H. had all died instantaneously their bodies, together with that of Sgt Marshall were removed to RAF Millom for disposal.”

Al: I had EG361 on file with the names of MOTBY, DUFF, FINBOW and COONEY. CWGC has for Cooney death date 9-4-1943; buried Whitechurch Church of Ireland Churchyard, Co. Wexford, Irish Republic.

Doubtful Malcolm, as 51 OTU was based in UK at that time.

I agree Henk, but that's what they are listed as in the GRO lists.
However, I the past I have seen personnel listed in these lists as being with a UK based OTU when lost on ferry flights to the Middle East so perhapd they had been at 51 OTU and were ferrying an aircraft

Bingo Malcolm - found following aircraft in latest edition AB Serials DA100-DZ999:
51 OTU - Mosquito NF.II - DZ703 - missing 11-4-1943 on ferry flight from Malta

AC1 Ernest KNOWLES - 976710 - the Graves Registration Report Form lists his unit as 55 O.T.U., and the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died at 4.30 p.m. at Dumfries Infirmary, the result of injuries sustained in a flying accident.
W/O Alexander TURNER 591059 - the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died at 4.05 p.m. at the Astley Ainslie Institution, Grange Loan, Edinburgh, due to Military TB, from which he had been suffering for 2 months.

CORRECTION to Henry James Laidler 613929. Entry is an error which I duplicated with Thomas Bruce Laidler 1344496 which entry is CORRECT

Henry James Laidler 613929 , attached to AHQ Levant, was dangerously injured in a motor cycle accident on the Jerusalem to Amman road on 9 April, dyi g of his injuries in Number 16 General hospital at 00:55 Hours

Ernest Knowles 976610 , an ACH/GD attached to 55 OTU, was Injured in a Flying accident at 09:00 Hours when Lysander L4768 crashed 4 miles West of Annan. Admitted to Dumfries Infirmary, he died of his injuries at 16:30 Hours
