Can anyone the identity of a seaplane reported in The Times as crashing in the River Humber on 28th March 1927. Was it RAF or civilian registered ? Who was the pilot ?
thanks Rich Allenby

I posted this question on the Air Britain Forum, Vic Smithg replied:
"Lloyd's Casualty Reports lists a Blackburn as crashing off Brough, but on the
26th March 1927, with no other details."
So we know the type now (as long as these are not 2 separate incidents)

Paul, many thanks for reposting this on AB.
I'd guessed its something to do with Brough and the type is a new addition for me, thanks.
Much appreciated. Rich

Vic Smith - Who (I think) used to work a Lloyds and is on AB-IX either has been through them or looked through them or has copies, they might be available for public viewing in the archives

Blackburn made a series of sea plane types in this time period -

Malcolm Fillmore on AB-IX has provided a possible candidate
"This is interesting. I, too, have no accident record for this matter
but I am aware that the Air Ministry often did not report on accidents
happening to Reserve School machines. The only candidate I have is that
we do not seem to have a fate for Blackburn Dart G-EBKG. This was
operated by Blackburn's North Sea Aerial & General Transport, which
itself ran the Reserve Flying School.
G-EBKG had a CofA renewal 3.3.27 and its registration was cancelled
23.1.28 - implying an accident."

Rich - I found this article in Times for Monday 28th March 1927
It says
"A seaplane after a flight over Hull and district on Saturday morning, was caught by the wind, when the pilot was making a landing on the River Humber at Brough and was turned over. The pilot saved himself by clinging on to one of the float, where he remained until rescued by first aid boat"
Saturday makes it 26th March 1927
PS
A search on the Guardian/Observer Archives reveals a headline which
says
Observer Sunday, March 27, 1927
"Seaplane Turns Over
A seaplane belonging to the Blackburn Aeroplane Company was completely
wrecked"
However, it would cost me £7.95 to find out more!
