Sgt (WOp/Ag) Kenneth H. BATEMAN - 1128675 of 75 PTU (Parachute Test Unit ??) was killed on active service 9-5-1943 and lies buried in the Alexandria (Hadra) War Mem. Cem., Egypt. Can't find a posting for this unit and type of aircraft assigned to this unit.
Looking for info what caused this airman's death.
Regards and thanks for your help.
Henk.

Henk,

Don't like 75 PTU at all!

Possibly 75 OTU. Maybe; Anson I DJ284 failed to return from exercise 8/9-5-1943.

What do you think?

Sgt (WOp/Ag) Kenneth H. BATEMAN - 1128675 hailed from the Irish Republic and perhaps Dennis could be of any help.

Col,
You could be right with 75 OTU and the Anson missing from a Navex. On the Alamein Memorial are with date 9-5-1943 and both of 75 OTU:
Sgt John BILTON - 1382087 - Column 270, and
Sgt Clifford H. RAWLINS - 1319323 - Column 271.
BATEMAN could have been recovered from the sea.

Sgt BARRY, BERNARD KEVIN 1335274 of 75 OTU was also lost on this date

Gents,

Already had those names marked up., plus one other:

90453 W/C Archibald Henry Everett DEW RAF(AuxAF).

Although DEW is not mentioned in the same casualty lists as Barry,Bateman,Bilton and Rawlins, (The Times July 6, 1943 p.2), there is this:

DEATHS - ON ACTIVE SERVICE.

DEW.- In May 1943 reported died at sea. Wing Commander Archibald Henry Everett Dew R.A.F.V.R., beloved husband of Doris Dew, of "Wimpole" Jennings Road, St. Albans. Memorial Service, St. Michael's, Cornhill, July 13 at 12.30 p.m.

The Times Thursday, July 1, 1943. p.1

Dew is listed in the GRO lists as with 'AMU', just those letters.

AMU = Air Ministry Unit, so he was probably a staff officer

A GRO overseas death cert on an ancestry.com family tree for A H E Dew indicates he died on the SS Highland brigade.

Cause of death is cropped but starts with: Coronary.....

H E Boyd is listed as Died on Active Service and has OADU listed on his graves registration form scanned on CWGC
