Accounts of Flying RAF 1930s Fighters

I would be grateful for any recommendations of first-person accounts of flying RAF biplane fighters in the 1930s, either in books or in periodicals.

You could try Douglas Baders story as he was flying biplanes in between the wars. Mind you if you look at any of the books about trainee aircrew they were still using biplanes for training well into WW2. A lot of those quote the aircrews experience of their first flights.

You could make a start with 'Open Cockpit - flying pre-war fighting and training aircraft' by John Nesbitt-Dufort, DSO, pub Speed and Sports Publications, 1970.

Its 77 soft-backed pages cover the Avro Trainer, Siskin IIIA, Fury, Flycatcher, Hart, Avro 504, Tomtit, Fairey IIIF, Gauntlet, DH 9A, Bristol Fighter and Tiger Moth.

Besides giving an excellent account of the types themselves, the book contains many personal accounts of the airmen flying them
