Dear Hugh Do you have access to the BEM citations for the 1942 New Years Honours and Awards please? I am aware that they remain in 'hard copy' in the AIR 2 files at Kew, but this requires a visit - which is a tad tricky for me whilst serving Her Majesty in Africa. I am after the rec for Flt Sgt Walter Davison from this list please. Many thanks in advance Jonny
Hello Hugh. I recently rejoined this forum as I noted that you wrote back in 2009 that you had the citation for the award of the AFC (LG 31 Mar 1942) to 37592 Sqn Ldr Peter Elkins Bennett. I was wandering if you still have a copy I could access, as at the moment I am looking after his medals. Any help would be of assistance. Chris H.
Hi. I know it has been a while since you posted the offer of awards citations, but I was wondering if you could help me. I am after a copy of the BEM citation for Cyril F Westwick. Any help would be great, Johnnie
Hello Hugh, I know its been a long time since the LG entry list was posted, but if you have the citation for TURVEY, Joseph Richard, Warrant Officer, DFM (NZ 39343, Royal New Zealand Air Force) - No.76 Operational Training Unit, Aqir, Middle East Command - AFC I would really appreciate it please? Many thanks. Phil
Hello Hugh Your posts on the forum are very interesting. Especially posts in 2011 re 267 squadron dummies and pintails, In which you record the results of a court of inquiry. I am searching for a court of inquiry for a 267 aircraft in the National Archives, can you tell me where you found your record of aircraft Dakota FD815 ? I cant find that in the NA catalogue, I must be missing something Looking forward to your reply and I have some of 267 orbs if you are still looking for things Angela UK
I hope that you do not mind me contacting you. I am doing research on the ditching into the Atlantic of Liberator BZ819. I found a rootsweb link which mentions Francis Halliday and yourself. Is there a family connection with Francis? My wife's grandfather was Wing Commader HRA Edwards who was the pilot of the flight and the only survivor. Hugh 'Jumbo' Edwards was a double gold medallist at the Olympics in 1932 (rowing) and these skills were obviously put to use as he had to row towards the general direction of England and through a minefield. If there is a family connection with Francis then we may have some details that may be of interest and to his service in the Air Force. Equally, you may hold information that we were unaware of. With best wishes
Thank you for the 212 Squadron ORB lookup Hugh. I am not surprised that he didnt turn up.. but still good to know... Much appreciated!
Hugh,I recently joined the forum and noticed that you had available a number of citations.Although my main interest is in Airborne Forces, my interest has extended to the air crew connected to Airborne Forces.I am, trying, to obtain as many of the medal citations for all Airborne personnel, which now incorporates those members of the RAF, RAFVR, WAAF etc.Could I impose on you to supply details of any citations you have for 28 men/women who I have noted from your posts. There are:7 from the Non Flying Awards 13/06/1946,13 from the Awards Sept 1943 to Jan 1944 and 8 from the Awards 01/01/1946.If you are able to assist I will forward the details in three seperate messages, just so it is easier for me to put them in some semblance of order!I am at this time merely trying to collate all the citations but if I ever get round to putting all of them in one place I will of course acknowledge all help provided. Thanks Andy Baker
Hi Hugh, My name is Kate Harling. My father was one of the pilots on Flight 9202 that crashed just outside of Halle, Germany on 11/4/45 while carrying penicillin into Poland. I am very grateful & pleased to find the rafcommand.com web site. You sound like someone who has done alot of research on this. I have been wanting to find the coordinates to the crash site. I've been thinking that, before I get any older, I'd like to visit the crash site, hopefully with my two sons. I saw on the thread that Henk Welting posted what I assumed were coordinates. I would appreciate any more information that you can offer. I live in California, the San Francisco Bay Area, but I am often in Toronto where two of my sons live, as well as Calgary and Vancouver, where one of my daughters live. Would very much appreciate hearing back from you… Sincerely, Kate Harling
Hello Hugh, Would you happen to have any info re. James K.B. Drysdale? He is deceased (1998), his family is asking for anything pertaining to his RAF / RCAF history. A sqdn. # to get me started would be fine? Thanks in advance. Best regards. Paul G.
