AC1 David C. McLEAN - 1795689 - 2781 Sqn (from North Ireland);
Sgt (Airgunner/Midupper) Christopher F. NORDHOFF - 1087857 - 97 Sqn (Bourn), severely wounded by cannonfire from an intruding enemy fighter 23/24 August 1943 on the return from a raid on Berlin; looking for the aircraft (Lancaster) serial number;
Cpl John H. SMITH - 508388 - age 39 (probably assigned to 521 Sqn Docking, Norfolk (DOAS and also 521 Sqn same day Cpl Sydney E. WOODHOUSE - 1230094) and
Sgt (Pilot) Allan C. TAYLOR - 1315107.

B - Died of wounds or injuries received on active service:
Sgt (WOp/Ag) George A. WAREHAM - 1332649.

C - Killed on active service:
W/O (Pilot) Frank LESLIE - 655449 - refer to Oxford aircraft of 10 Radio School under 'D';
Sgt (Wop/Ag) Kenneth J. MAY - 1458560, and
P/O Herbert G. PRICE - 122836 - age 42 - registered Pembroke (refer to W/O Frank LESLIE).

D - Proposed aircraft losses:
Oxford I - V3976 - 10 RS - collided with Oxford X6813 at the intersection of the runways at Carew Cheriton, Pembrokeshire.
Oxford I - X6813 - 10 RS - refer to Oxford V3976 (already as a casualty on Oxford X6813: W/O² [WOp/Ag] Wilfred J. LOUDEN - RCAF - R/69272).
Beaufort I - DX132 - 9 (C)OTU - crashed on approach Hallburncroft, Longtown, Cumberland (already as a casualty on this aircraft: Sgt [Pilot] John A.L. GRANT - 1394875.
Oxford I - N4644 - 15 (P)AFU - crashed on overshoot ½ mile S of Greenham Common.

Also looking for the abbreviation "32 BB (ME)" mentioned GRO-List for LAC Harry HANCOX - 1055661 - killed on active service and buried Salerno War Cem., Italy.

Re: NORDHOFF.

Nordhoff was the rear gunner aboard No.97 Sqn Lancaster III JA857:OF-G.

The abovementioned site incorrectly quotes the Lancaster serial as JD857. A check on the other ops of the pilot (F/O W. Riches), confirms JA857.

Hi Henk,

F1180s give pilot of V39676 as F/Sgt F J Leslie, Pilot of X6813 as Sgt A C Taylor

Quite a bit of scoring out in the casualty boxes but seems like 3 killed on V3976 and 1 on X6813.

This usually means that some seriously injured died soon after crash in hospital.

Needs a bit of work on the ORBs to identify who on what apart from the pilots.

Les Allison has in his "They Shall Grow Not Old" on page 433 under W/O¹ (WOp/Ag) Wilfred James LOUDEN - RCAF - R69272: Killed 3-9-1943, age 24, #10 Radio School. W/O Louden was killed when "HIS" Oxford aircraft # X6813 and Oxford # V3976 collided at the intersection of the runways at Carew, Cheriton,Pembrokeshire. The landing aircraft struck a taxying aircraft; four other airmen, not Canadians, were also killed.

Sgt (WOp/Ag) Kenneth J. MAY - 1458560;
P/O Herbert G. PRICE - 122836, and
Sgt (Pilot) Allan C. TAYLOR - 1315107,
whose death were all registered 3-9-1943 at Pembroke.

Can confirm. From what I gather My grandad WRIGLEY, James Act F/Sgt was the navigator on that flight. He took over as rear gunner during the incident. He was awarded a dfm for his actions.
