Hi,
I’m new to this Forum and this is my first post. My question is about the strike against the German Battleship “Prinz Eugen” om May 17th, 1942. A group of Beauforts from 86 Sqn took off from Sumburgh to attack the Battleship which sailed near the Norwegian coast. During this attack 4 Beauforts were lost. I have a list of crew-names from the CWGC and Geoff’s 1939-47 search engine.
F/S Oakwell; Sgt Ford; Sgt Smith; F/S Boyle; F/S Mercer and Sgt Crozier, all buried in Sola Churchyard, Norway.
P/O McDevitt; Sgt Ackerman and F/S Linford, all buried in the Var Frelsers Cemetery in Haugesund, Norway.
F/O Esler buried in the Mollendal Church Cemetery in Bergen Norway
Sgt Collins; Sgt Paton; Sgt Parkin; Sgt Angelo and Sgt Hoare all on the Runnymede Memorial
and last pilot Alan Hurrell who was made POW.
I’m looking for the Beaufort serial numbers and a crew tie-up.
Thank you
Ed Groenendijk, The Netherlands
