LAC Elliott was engaged on night flying excercises, and the particular excercise on which hewas engaged at teh time of the accident was circuits of the aerodrome. He took off in Harvard FE868 at about 21.00 hours on 3.11.43 and shortly after he left the aerodrome a bright glow was seen int eh sky and it was apparent that an aircraft had crashed. The ambulance was immediatly despatched to the scene and it was found that the aircraft in which LAC Elliott has taken off was wrecked on the ground. Sydney Day (Jack) was my Nans Brother

I can confirm that Sydney (1079265) died on the 3/11/1943 in a flying accident (We have the telegram(s)) but I can’t confirm any detail of the incident (my father says he was in a Beaufighter). Sydney was a Sgt Observer

if you look at the CWGC website and the image data they recently added you will that the unit listed for Sydney J Day is indeed 9 (C) OTU.

    Thank you Dennis, most appreciated.
(I don't think Sydney was on CWGC last time I looked) But I did find his grave details elsewhere, so I paid a visit.
I would just like to find out what happened.
