Bennett and De Wever (a Belgian) were in Cornell 14498. The crash resulted from spar failure in flight. Cornell 14488 survived the war and was returned to the US in 1946.

    Hello

    UK
GOY, Edward - F/L(Pilot) - probably killed whilst flying in Spitfire V, AA833 of the AEAF Communication Sqn, which crashed in a forced landing at Oxshott in Surrey after running out of fuel.

The accident was reported in the Norwood News of September 8th 1944:

    Pilot Tried to Avoid Houses
Flying his Spitfire from Normandy and experienced R.A.F. pilot was about to touch down when his landing gear refused to function accurately. In order to avoid some houses he swerved and crashed. He was killed.
The pilot was Flight-Lieut. Edward Goy, formerly of High View Close, Upper Norwood, whose wife and son are at present staying at Wallington. Flight-Lieut. Goy was killed two days before his thirtieth birthday.

    Regards

    Simon
