    Hello,

    (UK) 2 - 141362 F/O (Pilot U/T.) Leslie Clarence WATTS RAFVR.

P/O Watts was killed on a night training flight when No.41 OTU Hurricane IIC LF341, crashed at Booley House Farm (at map reference 580252), near Stanton upon Hine Heath, at 0400 on 31 August, 1944. Flying on instruments, in conditions of patchy cloud and occasional showers, the pilot is believed to have lost control while flying through a rain shower, and the aircraft dived into the ground.

No.16 EFTS didn't record much about the loss of N5451, but No.11 (P)AFU had a few entries in their ORB about it.

August 31st 1944, “Chellaston, Derbyshire. Map Ref. 838508 Fatal accident involving Oxford I, NM.637. After having taken off from Church Lawford, whilst engaged on a cross country flight, this aircraft was observed to collide with Tiger Moth N5451 of No.16 EFTS, Derby. Both aircraft crashed and the pilot u/t, in Oxford NM637, 1801097, Sgt Bell W.H.J., was killed. A court of enquiry has been convened to investigate this accident.”
