thanks Malcolm for the unit of Fred ADCOCK. I'm puzzled because No. 147 Wing was then based in Hunsdon, and I'm really wondering why he's buried in France. I'll have a look at the Wing ORB next time I'm in Kew, thanks to your information. I had copied it until July 1944... Too bad, 3 months too short...

Could 147 Wing have had some ground personnel based in France to service their aircraft using forward bases?

Hello Malcolm

I don't know. It's a possibility. I was thinking of a traffic accident, involving a small party of fitters from No. 147 Wing going to the continent to service/repair a Mosquito which had landed on a French airfield. Will post if I can find an answer in the Wing ORB.

I was in Kew yesterday so I checked AIR 26/211 the ORB of No. 147 Wing. I had previously read that ORB, but my digital pictures ended in July 1944. The reason is that the ORB in AIR 26/211 ends that month, and there's no further page.

Does anybody has an idea where one might access this Wing ORB from August 1944 till the end of WW2 ?

HALLUMS, Henry Horace - LAC - 1173267 - the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died at 6.10 a.m. at Gleneagles Hospital, Blackford, due to carcinoma of the gall bladder, carcinomatosis of the liver, kidney and small intestine, toxaemia and cardiac failure.

HICKS, Albert Richard - LAC - 1241721 - the National Probate Calendar has an Albert Richard George Hicks, of Lavender Hill, SW11 died on war service on October 5th.

Fred Adcock 1164006, attached to Number 147 Wing, died in Number 55 mobile field hospital as of injuries received when struck by an aircraft

Reginald James Goulding 1653739 , was seriously wounded at Eindhoven on 6 October when 4 large bombs were dropped in quick succession causing the squadron casualties and much damage to its vehicles . He was evacuated to Number 8 RAF hospital in Brussels by ambulance and train where he died of his injuries
