    641359 Sgt Ernest Abner AMZALAK RAF.

    641359 Sgt Ernest Abner AMZALAK RAF, was aboard 1675 HCU Liberator B.VI KG824 when it caught fire in the air and exploded 4 miles north-east of Abu Sueir during a training flight.

    Hi Col

    This is another one of Hobson's I have a problem with as Amzalak is shown in CWGC as dying on 21 Feb but KG824 was lost on 22 Feb?

    Amzalak is also on the Alamein Memorial as are the rest of the crew of KG903, whilst those lost on KG824 are all buried?

    Betty Kathleen Thorne 440710, was struck by a van on 27th November 1943, whilst serving as a waitress with Bomber Command at RAF Riccall. Severely injured with a fractured lumbar spine, concussions and abrasions she was admitted to the Seacroft EMS hospital, Leeds and medically discharged from the WAAF on 10th April 1944. Paralysed, She died in the Mid Glamorgan hospital, Bridgend from exhaustion caused by trophic ulcers

    Dorothy May Mockford 2029168 , a balloon operator in 901 / 905 AAF squadron attached to Number 3 balloon centre at Champion Hill, Denmark Hill, London died in Brighton borough sanatorium at 10:00 hours of pulmonary tuberculosis

    Edward Augustine Sizer 1357902 , was travelling back to the unit from an RAF rest camp at Feni in an American lorry when it overturned, fatally injuring him and injuring 4 other airmen

    Clifford Crowe 941719 , attached to 1 ( C ) OTU, was admitted seriously ill to RAF hospital Northallerton on 9 July, where he died of uranaemia with his Wife, Mrs. C. Crowe, at his bedside
