This is a spectacular database. Thanks very much Jagan.

Not to detract from all your hard work, but I note two errors on my 41 Sqn people, and can certainly add more detail to many. I can also identify which of the '41 Sqdn' entries are actually 41 Sqn SAAF as opposed to RAF. I see the database, but how can I access the page to update the entries for you?

    Thanks

As i keep populating the data (almost done with 1941 entries).. the data can also be used to draw charts.. here is a sample

    http://www.rafcommands.com/database/wardead/charts.php

Chart 1 - Month wise fatalities totals for the duration of war
    Chart 2 - Aircraft type-wise fatality numbers till 1940
    Chart 3 - Aircraft type-wise fatality numbers till 1941
Chart 4 - Aircraft typewrite fatality numbers All available..

(Had to truncate the ac name to 8 characters to give an accurate rendering)

    The source for the data

2486 links to NA AIR27 ORBs

Over the hill! - more than half the CWGC records are now 'accounted for' .

Of the 122357 records, 67203 records (54.92%) have circumstances of death. 55154 records (45.08%) do not have details.

I have a question for members. I have added a query by "Region" option. Essentially take all the 98 countries that appear in the CWGC Database and link them to eight regions that I could think of. It makes some querying easy - eg I can retrieve only SEAC related deaths if I need to.. eg: http://www.rafcommands.com/database/wardead/index.php?qregion=SEAC

The regions I currently have are :

    Africa : 2480
    Africa - North: 6759
    Americas: 4706
    Europe: 89462
    Mediterranean: 6089
    Middle East: 435
    Pacific: 4260
    SEAC: 8166

Is this a logical group of regions? I have some questions..

    1. Should Africa North and Mediterranean be combined? I currently have only the following in the Mediterranean group

Cyprus , Gibraltar,Greece , Israel and Palestine,Italy ,Lebanese Republic ,Malta ,Turkey

    2. Does Middle East deserve a separate region? Should it be rolled into the Mediterranean, or kept as is?

    3. Am I missing any other regions that need to be defined on their own?

    FWIW .. all the countries represented in the DB are : Albania : 21 | Algeria : 446 | Argentina : 1 | Australia : 2706 | Austria : 132 | Azores : 45 | Bahamas : 53 | Bangladesh : 359 | Belgium : 3203 | Bermuda : 10 | Brazil : 7 | Bulgaria : 24 | Canada : 3882 | Chad : 4 | China, (including Hong Kong) : 79 | Congo (Democratic Republic) : 1 | Croatia : 1 | Cyprus : 81 | Czech Republic : 38 | Denmark : 933 | Djibouti : 8 | Egypt : 5086 | Equatorial Guinea : 10 | Eritrea : 74 | Ethiopia : 24 | Faroe Islands : 14 | Fiji : 11 | France : 8198 | Gambia : 52 | Germany : 16812 | Ghana : 76 | Gibraltar : 134 | Greece : 317 | Guyana : 6 | Hungary : 204 | Iceland : 110 | India : 2069 | Indonesia : 1105 | Iran : 27 | Iraq : 300 | Ireland, Republic of : 158 | Israel and Palestine (including Gaza) : 341 | Italy : 2460 | Jamaica : 7 | Japan : 208 | Kenya : 196 | Lebanese Republic : 43 | Liberia : 10 | Libya : 669 | Luxembourg : 26 | Madagascar : 14 | Malaysia : 319 | Mali : 1 | Malta : 2702 | Mauritania : 5 | Morocco : 38 | Myanmar : 523 | Namibia : 3 | Netherlands : 6145 | New Caledonia : 326 | New Zealand : 488 | Nigeria : 78 | Norway : 428 | Pakistan : 233 | Panama : 1 | Papua New Guinea : 768 | Poland : 379 | Portugal : 33 | Puerto Rico : 1 | Romania : 81 | Russian Federation : 10 | Samoa : 1 | San Marino : 2 | Senegal : 1 | Serbia : 341 | Seychelles : 2 | Sierra Leone : 65 | Singapore : 3127 | Somalia (including Somaliland) : 7 | South Africa : 1262 | Spain : 63 | Sri Lanka : 267 | St. Vincent : 3 | Sudan : 155 | Sweden : 99 | Switzerland : 35 | Syria : 33 | Tanzania : 26 | Thailand : 164 | Trinidad and Tobago : 14 | Tunisia : 422 | Turkey (including Gallipoli) : 11 | Uganda : 4 | United Kingdom : 51988 | United States of America : 378 | Yemen : 75 | Zambia : 11 | Zimbabwe : 444]

    A milestone - 70K records

70007 records (57.22%) have some details on circumstances of death.

Used a tiny bit of Alex Smart's data from the Coastal Commands thread to get the records in for 210 and 202 Sqdns.. this took it beyond 70K

    52350 records (42.78%) to go!

The CWGC Database is enhanced a bit more.. Now in the search results, the Surname is a hyper link - and clicking it will take you to an individual casualty page that will have additional details - eg - a search of the Gazette, and even a rough search of the forum for additional posts..
