    Hello,

MALAYASIA - 419578 F/O Richard Buckley BIRRELL RAAF.

On the 28 November, 1945, six Mustang aircraft of No.76 Sqn RAAF, flew to Palawan on a navigational exercise. One aircraft went unservicable (A68-775) at Palawan, and F/O R. B. BIRRELL RAAF, in Mustang A68-771 was left there so that two aircraft could return together. F/O BIRRELL departed Palawan for Labuan , alone, in A68-771 at 1010hrs, and did not return. No message was received and a thorough search of the entire area returned no trace.

The pilot was given a good weather report on departure, but subsequent reports state that there were low clouds and heavy rain in the area at that time. P/O BIRRELL was reported missing.
