What caused the death of and/or what were the places of death registration for:

AC1 George H. FAIRCLOUGH - 623511 - not found Flight archives.
AC2 Frank A. HANLON - 1359002 - killed on active service.
AC2 John E. JONES - 1104177 - killed on active service.
AC2 Henry G. KEIR - 1058773 - died of wounds or injuries received on active service.

No proposed aircaft loss.

George Fairclough,19, is registered at Wallasey, also registered is a George R Fairclough,52 and that name appears among the younger man's Family details on CWGC. It suggests possible air raid victims.A similar idea applies to Frank Hanlon,27 who is registered at Manchester. A Joan Hanlon is also registered and is on CWGC as the wife of Frank (who also died in the same incident) There is also a Madeline ,5, recorded, but she does not appear on CWGC.
Both Jones 20, and Keir 19, are recorded in Birkenhead. All these places are quite close together, particularly Birkenhead and Wallasey which are just opposite Liverpool. See if there were Air raids in that part of N W England
Edit-Ive looked at the Hanlons again and there is an additional Civilian Death on CWGC at the same address as Frank and Joan, Harriet Hanlon,52,but nothing to confirm Madeline and a Harold Hanlon,37 as being members of the same family

Where could I find more on air raids by the Germans on UK ? Only know website http://www.raf.mod.uk/Bob1940 where info is available on air raids during July and October 1940.

I don't know of a website either but I do have a book on the London raids and it records the fact of major raids elsewhere as well. There were heavy raids on Merseyside on 21&22/12/40( ie Liverpool, Birkenhead and Wallasey that lie directly opposite each other across the Mersey river estuary with docks and moored shipping at the start/finish of Atlantic Convoys) and major raids on Manchester on 22&23/12/40, so you are well provided with likely incidents and they are all close enough together that poor navigation to one could result in bombs falling on one of the others.

Thanks Andy. Meanwhile found more on Google looking for 'air raids' - 'Luftwaffe' - 'U.K.'. However one has to know a bit more from the UK-geography than we over here on the continent !!

I have a list of people killed in the Manchester Raid. I will check it for AC2 Hanlon. Unfortunately not all the victims were identified. If the Hanlons are not on the list I will enquire further. For more information on the Manchester Raid I have just posted in another thread

Having checked my records , I only have Chorlton on Medlock about 100 of the 700 casualties. I will forward the names to Manchester to check the complete record

I regret to say that AC 2 Frank A Hanlon 1359002 died on the night of the 22 nd Dec 1940. He was in 4 Livingstone street Chorlton on Medlock. His mother and father were both killed at the same time. May they rest in Peace. His grave may be found in Southern Cemetary Manchester. Further enquiries contact me. Please remove him from the missing, he has been found
