    Sounds like he was very lucky indeed - or very skilful. Wonder if they flipped a coin to see who gets the bait job...!

    Is there any chance there's a serial number for Hurricane 'N' in the log book?

    A late comment from myself after viewing my Fathers log book on a couple of incidents he was involved in...
    a) Hurricane N crash landed on 1/04/44...there is no tail number in the log book only the squadron applied designated lettering.
    b) the mid air collision between the two 258 Thunderbolts on 29th September 1944....the log book states only the letter N with again no serial number.....i am not now sure which pilot was in which aircraft - FL 827/HD141...the accident card and casualty records would appear to be contradictory...has this been clarified elsewhere by now?
