AIR 78/61/1 image 307 also has 1309587 as 'Arthur GIBSON'

Probate records for 1948 have an Arthur Gibson of Ashton-in-Makerfield (about 20 miles away from Hale cemetery) "....died 20 April 1947 at Southampton..." which would seem to confirm Simon's post above.
