Admitted at Sea Island on 26 Aug 45 with what was initially thought to be infectious mononucleosis, he was transferred to the Station Hospital at No. 3 Repair Depot, Vancouver on 29 Aug 45 with lymphatic leukaemia. He was discharged to Christie St Hospital, Toronto on 10 Oct 1945 and placed on the Dangerously Ill list 11 Oct 45. He was medically discharged from the RCAF on 29 Oct 1945.

Discharged from the RCAF effective 21 Jul 45. Diagnosed in Feb 1943 as suffering Mitral stenosis, cardiac hypertrophy, myocardial changes, and peri-cardial adhesions, he was recommended for discharge. A letter dated 03 Apr 1943 from his CO requests his retention due to his experience and ability, and he was retained and promoted Sgt. His discharge interview on 21 Jul 1945 notes that ‘his medical category has dropped quite considerably on leaving the service, and he is only to be employed in sedentary occupations.”

“Airman had proceeded on attached duty to No. 1 “M” Depot, Portage la Prairie, Man. 5 Nov 46 to check and service 2 CMU CE equipment in storage at that Depot. He was found dead in the CMU storage hangar by a civilian employee at approx. 1300 hrs 8 Nov/46.”
