Re: 391229 - Unaccounted Airmen- 29-12-1939
Hello
UK
HUNNS, Leonard James - AC2c - 552068 - his death was reported in newpapers at the time. The Manchester Evening News of December 30th 1939 reported that he was found dead on the LMS railway line bewteen Alderley Edge and Wilmslow. He had been seeing a local girl on several occasions some three years prior to his death, and then after a few months she had told him she preferred to go out with soemone else.
In reply to a telegram, she met up with Hunns a couple of times in the week before his death. The second time, as they parted he struck her about the head with a broken file, and ran off when someone approached. The Coroner gave the opinion that Hunns had suffered a nervous breakdown, suffering from the strain of being in the Air Force.
A verdict that Hunns took his own life while the balance of his mind was disturbed was reported in the Liverpool Echo of January 1st 1940.
