    Hello,

    AUSTRALIA.

24189 Cadet Edward Andrew WALSH RAAF

Air Cadet Edward Andrew WALSH RAAF (of No.22 Squadron RAAF), was killed in a flying accident at 8.20 A.M., on 4 April, 1940. Air Cadet WALSH RAAF, flying solo, in Demon A1-49, stalled from an inverted position while in a slow roll and spun into the ground near the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, Richmond, NSW. Demon A1-49 was completely destroyed.

RAAF Air Cadets were not allocated service numbers.

I have no idea where the service number 24189 originated, but can tell you that 24189 was in fact, allocated to, Samuel Arthur Thomas WOODBRIDGE RAAF, at Cairns, QLD, on 13 June, 1940:

Walsh had previously served a short stint in the Militia, with the 5th Field Regiment (09-01-1939 to 14-12-1939), then transferred to the RAAF. He also had 180+ flying hours on enlistment in the RAAF. Air Cadet Walsh was due to graduate in five weeks time.

At an inquiry, on 10 July, 1940, the Coroner, Mr H S Johnston, recorded a finding of accidental death. The cause of death was given as; haemorrhage and other extensive injuries.

Just noticed in passing, in #1 above
    "UK
    ALLAN, Arthur George Robert - Sgt - 562405 - RAF - 211 Sqn"

If recall correct, perhaps noted in some other post.
Rather than hunt again, to add just a little from my 211 Squadron Honour Roll page, notes:

"Sgt Allan, the Squadron’s first casualty of the war, was in fact killed in transit to his 211 Squadron posting while taking part in a Wellesley Delivery Flight to the Middle East, when Wellesley I K7754 was lost in bad weather off the French coast with K7740"

    Hi Alex,

    WALSH, Edward Andrew - Cadet - 24189 - RAAF

Don't know where CWGC got the service number from ?

    https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Sear...spx?B=21510546

    AGE 24 (18.12.15) - 24 18 1+2+1+5 = 9 24189

Is it a coincidence or an intention?

    Regards

    Mojmir
