    Hello,

l don't have full details, but l believe P/O Baard and F/L Thomas were killed when No.7 FIS Magister R1844 dived into ground near Woodborough, Wiltshire, on 18-10-1943. Needs confirmation.

is that based on their death registration area Col?
Both are registered on the same page of the Devizes registration district, Vol, 5a pg 143

Ernest Berry is lsited as being with HQ Unit DAF on the GRO lists of overseas deaths, I assuem that means Desert Air Force.
G E Heasman and D V Warner are listed as with 9 (C) OTU. A beaufighter loss perhaps

    Col is correct.

Thomas was the instructor and Baard the pupil on R1844.

Heasman and Walker were killed with No.304 FTU when Beaufighter LZ359 was lost.

    Default Thomas and Baard

This from Rod Priddle's "Wings over Wiltshire":

Flt Lt Reginald H P Thomas, RAFVR, (Instructor) and South African P/O Jacobus A J Baard, RAFVR, (pupil) were killed on Monday 18 October when their Magister R1844 crashed near Woodborough, 3 miles northwest of Upavon . The crash was attributed to "a stable yawing dive to which Magisters were prone when elevators are blanked by rudder when recovering from a stall or spin". The South African is buried at Upavon cemetery.
