Hi Andy , he was never a POW . I’m assuming , that someone assumed he died on a torpedoed axis ship en route to Italy as a POW and entered that on this database , but it’s wholly incorrect . He’s not the only Airman who died on the RAMB IV being evacuated from Tobruk but until Jagan sent me the POW list t’other day , I’d not picked him up in the errors and partially accounted Airmen on here . They are the hardest to pick out , I’d already been all through the Alamein memorial double checking and still missed a few

If you want a little more Jagan , he bailed out but was badly burnt but still reached shore by dinghy , after being shot down 16 miles North of Gazala Derna Grid 353459 at approximately 11:30 Hours . He was born in Oslo and joined the SAAF from Mozambique in July 1940 , then through 73 , 63, 2 and 22 AS Wings , finishing 26 Seltember 1941 , then to 94 Squadron October to December 1941, thence to 71 OTU till March 1942. He was attached to 1 Squadron from 17 March to 6 April 1942 and to 4 Squadron on 11 April, where he lasted for a mere 2 weeks before being shot down in combat with 109s
Arthur Edward Fox 2266625 , attached to AHQ Italy, was killed in a traffic accident 2 miles North of Grado
Robert Hanna 1029482 , a medically discharged Airman at the time of his death, died in the Whiteabbey Sanatorium of pulmonary tuberculosis and amylordois with his Father Mr. Robert Hanna of 14 Rathgan Street, Belfast , at his bedside
