Default 615992 Russell Graham TROTTER - P.o.W. circumstances

    Hello everyone

On Monday December 20th 1943 Sgt. Russell Graham Trotter was reported to be a P.o.W. in the Newcastle Journal. I'm trying to find the circumstances behind him ending up being a prisoner, without any success. He's not in 'Footprints in ths Sands of Time' so not Bomber Command, and I can't see him in Volume 2 of Fighter Command Losses.

Can anyone help me find him?

    Regards

    Simon

    Simon, Mornin'
Well, on all 5 entries for him on FMP he is described as a Cpl. By Dec 43 all NCO aircrew were Sgts (or above)? So you might be looking at Ground Crew, or Technicians, of some sort.
Mathematically he Enlists mid-May 38. He's in Block 610000-654721, RAF, Civilians, Issued 01-Mar-38 to 01-Sep-39. A Russell G Trotter b. Q2 1921 Reg Easington 10a 1045 looks like him - and the age fits. If the paper was published 20 Dec 43, then the info released to the press would have occurred a month(???) before. If he was non-aircrew(?) then we might be looking at an area where the RAF was in close proximity to the Axis. This - to me - is beginning to smell of The Mediterranean? The various Benghazi Handicaps were over by mid-1943, so we might be looking at Sicily/Italy - but the Allies didn't retreat too often there (when PoW get 'left behind'!)?
In reality I'm just guessing. Best I cn do!

    Morning Peter

Many thanks for that. I saw he was on the P.o.W. lists, but hadn't clocked that he was recorded as a Corporal in them. As you say, he's likely ground crew, so a real needle in the proverbial haystack!
