    Default Abbreviation help needed

    Hi All,

I found reference to an abbreviation I`m not familiar with in 404 RCAF Sqn ORB. Is states that a Beaufighter crew were sent to Leuchars for A.P.C. course.

Does anyone know what this course involved? Only ref I found to A.P.C. was `Armament Practice Camp`.

    Regards
    Dave.

Hi Dave, I think you have found a correct meaning of the APC.
I have also researched some Czechoslovak fighter pilots who passed course at Armament Practice Camp.
To my understanding the pilot/crew practiced there several exercises of attacks and shooting to improve they shooting skills.

    Thanks Pavel,

I wasn`t sure, but that makes sense. The month previously they had been practicing at Tain range with Rockets.

    Regards.

    Dave,

Just to confirm, No. 3 Armament Practice Camp was based at Leuchars from 5 November 1941 until 12 September 1945.

I believe they would have used Tentsmuir ranges for that course at Leuchars. Coastal Command were the only command to resurrect the APC (Previously ATC and ATS) in 1941, one per Group.

Prior to 1943 the pre-war APC format continued, of sorts, in other commands but under different guises, although still referred to as APC's by aircrew.
