Default 101 Squadron crash on 14 April 1943

Can anyone help with this request please - The Lancaster in question was a 101 Sqn. a/c, ED-807 operating from Holme on Spalding Moor. It was destroyed whilst executing a 'practice landing on three engines' on 14-4-'43 after having ditched its bombload in the sea. Among the crew who all perished was my friend's uncle, F/O Victor Cook & although the chaps at Yorkshire aviation crashes have produced a decent article describing the event, the ORB would be the document to see to have an official version of the crash.

    Many thanks

    Allan,

The records seem to indicate the aircraft and crew were returning from ops to Spezia. All 18 101 machines returned safely, ED379 losing both outer engines and returning after jettisoning their bombload. T/o around 2000, return by 0700 for the balance.

From the 101 Squadron ORB re: ED807 SR-X

5x1,000 lb bombs were jettisoned off Flamborough Head, it is believed, as the aircraft returned and crashed SW of aerodrome. The port outer is believed to have become U/S after takeoff. All the crew who were operating for the first time were killed
Sgt Fee, T crashed on landing. The whole of the promising crew being killed. It is consoling to know that the photo plot shows the Squadron's efforts to be not wasted
    Regards,

    Dave
