Default No.59 Operational Training Unit (ORBs from July to December 1943)

    Hello/Bonjour,

Does anyone have the ORBs of 1943 for the No.59 Operational Training Unit? I am looking for information/details on a certain F/O Cattermoul (first name Frank Harold, service number 126582). It appears that he was stationed in this unit after June 1943, and I don't know until what date (...perhaps at the beginning of 1944 because on February is then at No.1 Squadron). On September 6, 1943, while leading a section, two of his wingmen were involved in an accident, one of them being killed. Any information on this airman in this OTU are welcome.

    Best regards,
    Frederic

    Gents, thank you to all.

There are two investigation files in the archives at Kew (WO 309/1990 "Alleged murder of F/Lt Cattermoul..." and WO 311/915 "Murder of F/Lt Cattermoul..."), proof that the cause of his death is not really clear because "Pussy" Cattermoul makes a nice belly landing (near Plouay, north of Lorient) and according to his teammates, is safe. He died at Rennes early July, about 150km from Plouay. A German document speaks of a severe concussion and the cause of the latter is probably in these files (...belly landing?, German soldiers' brutality?)

    Best regards,
    Frederic
