    Default Richard Rigby R.C.A.F.

    Hi all,
Trying to help a co-worker track down his grandfather. They literally have only a name (Richard "Dick" Rigby) and the fact he was a pilot to go on. R.C.A.F. , WW2 service. Not listed on the RCAF Association site, so it doesn't look like he was decorated.
Very little to go on, and I have come up empty handed with my usual sources, so I am hoping someone here can offer up something!
Any info or leads much appreciated.
    Cheers, Clint

Flying Officer Richard Thomas RIGBY C50191 RCAF
    https://legionmagazine.com/en/last-p...ntry&id=301356

There is a profile for him on Ancestry.com and an Obituary on Newspapers.com

Served in the RCAF 1940-1945 but no details of postings. In 1967-1968 he served as Provincial President of the BC Command of Army Navy and Air Force Veterans and was awarded the Centennial Medal in recognition of his services, Perhaps that organisation and/or the Royal Canadian Legion could add more.

Hopefully this will give you a start

    Chris

Thank you both, yes this is the fellow. But Mojmir, I was unable to open the link you sent to collections Canada, just wont load on either computer. Was the information about my target being a Flight Engineer on this page?
Now that I have the service number, I can help my coworker ask the government for his service records, so this is a great start! Thank you!

    Hi Clint,

    We can try another way:

    Open: https://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/...danrvjiv629gl2

Write 1 (Month) and 1945 (Year) and Submit

Choose GIF or PDF (27 January 1945) - click and scroll to p. 345, Flight Engineer Officer

(Or try to disable protection on my original address)

    Regards

    Mojmir

    Hello,

    From Hugh's post http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...ervice-Numbers

    SECOND WORLD WAR - OFFICERS

Prewar officers like J.S. Scott retained their "C" numbers, and other officers continued to receive "C". Most of these were in non-flying trades (Administration, Flying Control, Link Instructor, Medical, Marine Branch, etc.). However, a number of aircrew continued to receive "C" numbers. These included men with

    (a) prewar flying experience (such as former bush pilots and Americans who already had flying experience). An example would be Squadron Leader John Hone, a very experienced prewar pilot who received number C.1294.

    (b) former Royal Air Force officers transferring to the RCAF, 1943 to 1945

    (c) flight engineers.
    Regards,

    Dave
