    Default Night fighter claims

I wonder if anyone with access to Theo Boiten's book can help with a Bomber Command loss on the night of 15/16 Jul 41. 75 Sqn were attacking targets in the area of Duisberg. One of the 75 Sqn losses that night was R3171 (AA-E). Does Theo have an entry in relation to R3171 for that night?

    Terry,

no entry in Theo's books, the assumption in Bill Chorley's BCL is that the aircraft crashed into the sea. Ive also checked Foreman, Matthews and Parry's Nightfighter Combat Claims, again noting relating to your crew.

    Hi Terry,

Nothing in ‘Forever Strong’ the history of 75 Sqn by Norman Franks either. Errol Martyn excellent book ‘For Your Tomorrow’ states that two bodies washed ashore onto the Dutch coast, one being that of the pilot R R E Fotheringham who was buried in Petten Cemetery 29 kms south of Den Helder and later interred in Bergen-op-Zoom.

    Cheers,

    John.

Thank you for your replies. It has become somewhat tortuous; the 75 Sqn website says no reports, signals were received from the aircraft, yet other websites talk about the port engine being on fire as a result of AA fire, the aircraft was returning to Feltwell and that it crashed about 50 (could be kms, naut or stat miles) SE of Lowestoft. All very confusing. Regards, Terry
