P/O Sanders was injured while flying with 87 Sqn at Merville on 20 May 40. He died of his wounds on 23 May 40 while being evacuated back to the UK.
BoF says Sanders, "of No.145 Squadron, had arrived at Lille-Marcq with a replacement aircraft a few days earlier and stayed to fly operations with No 87 Squadron". 81 Sqn was flying Tiger Moths at that time.
The serial of the aircraft also needs confirmation, as it is listed twice in TNA:
    20 May as above: http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ls/r/C14502034
27 May while being flown by P/O Forde of 145 Sqn: http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ls/r/C14502062
It seems unlikely, but not totally impossible I guess, that the same aircraft was involved in both incidents, as 145 Sqn was based at Tangmere, so it would have had to have been repaired after the first incident and returned to the UK (by who?)
In addition, contributors to ASN seem to have come up with different codes for the losses:
    20 May LK-J: https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/228146
    27 May SO-N: https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/228516
which means it would have gone from a 145 Sqn code, to an 87 Sqn, and back to a 145 Sqn within the space of a week or so.
I suspect that one or other of these incidents may have involved a different aircraft, but which one?

    Hi

Knowlton - He died from injuries sustained on 20 May 1940 whilst working as part of a rescue party when the bombs on-board a burning aircraft exploded.

Lawton - He was serving with No 226 Sqn, and was killed when the lorry he was traveling in from the aerodrome to Sqn HQ overturned.
