Military aircraft accidents in the counties od Caithness, Sutherland and Ross & Cromarty.

    ISBN: 978-0-9523928-3-5 Published April 2021.

The Scottish Highlands with its spectacular scenery, castles, architecture and ancient history is today a favourite holiday destination for many the world over. However, during the Second World War this place of beauty became a fortress that saw many air battles around its coastline, sometimes the allies were the victors, but quite often many aircraft either homebound, outbound on operations or perhaps just training flights, not only suffered take off and landing accidents, but also fell prey to the hills, mountains and glens in this often hostile landscape, either through bad weather, machine malfunctions, inexperience or just rotten luck.
This book describes the stories behind sixty of these losses from Cape Wrath in the far north west to Inverness in the south east. Where possible detailed accounts gleaned from aircrew, official documents, rescuers, families and eye-witnesses are included, along with biographies on each of the aircrew and many photographs. Dedicated to all those who lost their lives and to those who survived against incredible odds.
