AC2 Leonard BEDDOE - 1401307 - the Lancashire Evening Post of May 15th 1941 reported the following:

BLACKPOOL CRASH INQUEST
"Death by misadventure" was the verdict at a Blackpool inquest yesterday on Aircraftman Leonard Beddoe (30), of St. Chad's Road, Blackpool, who sustained fatal injuries when the motorcycle he was riding was in collision with a lorry at the junction of Bolton Street and Crystal Road, Blackpool, on Saturday evening.

LAC Henry V. CAREN - 535880 - the Evening Despatch of May 13th 1941 reported the following:

Verdicts of accidental death were recorded at a Solihull inquest to-day on two R.A.F. men, Leading Aircraftman Henry Victor Caren, aged 24, and A/C Francis John Thomas, aged 22, who died from injuries received when a motor-cycle on whichthey were travelling in Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, collided head-on with a motor-van. The van turned over and the motor-cycle burst into flames.

AC1 Ernest B. HAY - 960805 - the National Probate Calendar records:

HAY Ernest Bertram of 151 Lissom Grove St. Marylebone who is believed to have been killed through war operations on 11 May 1941 and whose dead body was found on 14 May.

AC2 Arthur LYON - 1290932 - not sure he's registered at Islington. The Civilian War Deaths register has LYON, Arthur, aged 26; seaman, Merchant Navy; of 4 East St. King's Lynn, Norfolk, 11th May 1941 at H. M. Prison Pentonville.

AC2 Arthur W. NECK - 1202697 - the 'Croydon and the Second World War' memorial book records that he died as the result if enemy action at Lambeth, 11th May 1941.

F/Sgt Eric A. PRIOR - 512490 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at the Royal Infirmary, Worcester.

AC1 William H. STOATE - the Yorkshire Post of May 12th 1941 reported the following:

RAIDS IN NORTH EAST
High explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped at a North East town early on Saturday, but damage was slight and casualties, with one exception, were not serious. Fifteen people were treated for injuries caused by flying glass. Three others, including a woman of 86, were admitted to hospital, but the condition of only one - Wiiliam A. Stoate, a young Bradford man - was serious.

Sgt (Obs) Donald R. TILLEN - 745090 - from the 42 Sqn ORB Form 541:

May 9th 1941

LEUCHARS

P/O PHILPOT, SGT, TILLEN, SGT, GRANT, SGT WEST, in Beaufort N1017. Reached the Norwegian coast at 5,000 ft and by 02.30 had climbed to 7,500 ft. over the target [Kristiansand?]. Dropped a stick of two 250 lb G.P. bombs and one 1,000 lb bomb which were observed to fall between and slightly south of two big hangars and amongst buildings. Very accurate and concentrated flak forming a cone at 7,000 ft. was experienced from the perimeter of the aerodrome. The Navigator, SGT. TILLEN, was killed by a burst of flak which came up through the bottom of the aircraft. SGT. GRANT, the wireless operator was badly wounded in the left arm by another burst and fainted. On recovery, however, is spite of a painful arm injury and loss of blood he continued to operate the radio until half an hour out from the target and radio failed completely. At 05.40 landfall was made at WHITBY and as medical assistance was urgently required for the wireless operator the pilot decided to land at NORTH COATES. As the hydraulics had been shot away and the flap and undercarriage emergency systems failed to work aircraft made a belly landing at 06.30 at NORTH COATES.

Philpot was Oliver Lawrence Spurling Philpot, R.C.A.F., awarded the D.F.C. for this action, and later was famously part of 'The Wooden Horse' escape from Stalag Luft III. Grant and West were awarded the D.F.M. - West would lose his life on August 13th 1941 in Halifax I L9562 of 76 Sqn.

George Robert Farmer 1181238 , attached to 11 OTU , was admitted seriously ill to Tetbury District hospital on 24 April suffering with pyrexia. Transferred to RAF hospital Innsworth on 2 May , he died at 07:50 Hours of pulmonary tuberculosis

Number 54 Group , was admitted seriously ill to the RAF Officer's hospital, Torquay on 5 May, dying of diatonis nasal columella abscesses and Pyaemia with his wife , Mrs. P. Longer, at his bedside

Eric Arthur Prior 512490 , was injured in a motor car accident in Worcester and admitted to the Worcester Royal Infirmary where he died the same day.

The AIR81 link in the forum linking him to bombing in London is an error and should be removed
