    Default Crash site lancaster

    Hi. My first post with thanks for acceptance. I am trying to locate the crash site for Lancaster NF254 which crashed on a training flight on 21st March 1945 near RAF Ludford in Lincolnshire. A record gives the crash as 1 mile N East of Ludford airfield ,but my father believes he witnessed the debris of this crash and says it to be 1 mile N west of Ludford. I know some records can be mistranscibed but wonder if more details of this crash are known. Many thanks Dave

    Just a slight typo in the serial number - isn't it NF954 SR-W of 101 Squadron?

    Welcome aboard! Not much of a problem with the weather. Stiff W–SW wind, good vis, and 6-8/8ths Sc – just right for circuit bashing!! Ludford was also one of the very early FIDO equipped airfields.

    Hi. I have recieved a quick response from the BCAR site which i was impressed with , but sadly the crash i believed to be correct is not the case. Because i dont have plane or date of crash details i am not sure where to go from here. Any further advice would be appreciated.

    I have now discounted the Lancaster crash previously mentioned and now looking at crash 16/12/1943. Lancaster based at Binbrook 460 squadron but crashed near Ludford. The date was known as "Black Thursday " and there were several crashes in the area on that night. I believe the crew were Greenacre, Cairns, McCorkingdale, Manning, Hall, Webster, Thurburn. All survived. Later many of this crew were POWs after crash in October 1944. Even the plane number would be of help. Thanks Dave

    A420507 F/Sgt Patrick Andrew Teece (2nd pilot, nominal roll website has him discharged 31 January 1945 as an LAC)

    Aircraft took off at 1620 for Berlin. Berlin was attacked at 2024 hrs. from 18,000 ft. Weather 5/10s cloud up to 6000 ft. Visibility good. Target identified by red and green flares and red and green TIs. Bombed centre of large cluster of R/G flares, large area covered by scattered fires. Starboard outer engine failed. Returned on three engines. On returning, the pilot said, "An effective raid, concentrated sky marking, many fighter flares in target area"

    Summary of events in No. 460 Squadron's ORB simply states "JB613 crashed at Ludford Magna, all the crew being safe".
