All, As we are reaching the milestone of less than 3000 records remaining, I am taking this opportunity to ask for help from forum members for a crowd sourcing effort.


In the early days of the CWGC database, I had only updated forum posts links and did not have the ability to populate the cause of 'death' for many of the records. Thus a record will show up as :

Circumstances of Death:
Forum Post

i.e there is no text under "Circumstances of Death" only a link to the forum post. I want to update the text from the forum there..

All the records that are like the above are now in this google sheet.

There are 2250 such records that are like that. I am asking for help from forum members to read the forum post and copy the text to a 'detail' field

So anyone who wants to chip in with effort, please use the sheet above. Click on the link in Column J - it will tkae you to the forum post and highlight the surname. Copy the text back to the spreadsheet in Column K. Re-write as needed.

I will run some SQLs based on the sheet to populate the details back into the DB.

Can all our forum members commit to picking up one or two records per day each to update in this sheet? if a 100 members do it for a month sporadically, we will be done with this ask!

Jagan I have made few at the beginning of 1941 and I hope I have got the right understanding how to make it.
As I have found some additional info missing in the DB (locked columns) please:

LIONEL HENRY PHILLIPS - add unit 15 O.T.U.

SAUL EDWARD LYONS - add unit No. 6 Balloon Centre, RAF Wythall

Jagan, it's a brilliant idea . All I'd ask extra , is there any way to start to differentiate partially accounted entries ?

I can't really do any of these myself at the moment though sorry, as I don't think I'd currently have time with trying to get through the remaining unaccounted
