VLASTO, Michael, S/L, DFC (108232, RAFVR) - No. 52 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 19 October 1945. Born in Calcutta, 1915. Enlisted June 1940, commissioned June 1941. Mentioned in Despatches, January 1943 and June 1945. Citation in AMB 19961.

This officer has set a fine example of leadership as flight commander. He was one of the pioneers in flying supplies and passengers to China from India and has completed at least 120 flights on this most hazardous route in the face of enemy activity and very severe weather. Squadron Leader Vlasto is an exceptionally able captain of aircraft and his wide knowledge and experience have been of great value in the training of other pilots.

YENDALL, Jack Earnest Thomas, F/L (1114996, RAFVR) - No.52 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 19 October 1945. Born 1919 in Rigg, Monmouthshire. Educated there and London College of Printing. Enlisted in Royal Artillery (Territorial, April 1939. Commissioned September 1940. Transferred to RAF, December 1941. Citation in AMB 19961.

Flight Lieutenant Yendall joined this squadron in July 1944. As a pilot/navigator he has shown exceptional ability. He was one of the first pilots to undertake flights across the dangerous India to China route on which he has completed 64 crossings. His enthusiasm and skill in the face of danger and adverse weather have always been outstanding.
