Re: Trying to ID Pilot
Hello All,
Interesting little side-line discovered relating to this thread. Stephen Edward Beloe was one of the Pilots mentioned in the early part of the thread. I looked him up. He was:
743255 Stephen Edward Beloe. B. Q3 1906. Cmm 1 Jun 1940 Off #80857. Cmm from AC2.
Nothing particularly unusual about that. He is in the RAFVR Pilots Block.
However, at one digit less of the OR number (743254) is:-
743254 John Cunningham. B. 27 Jul 1917. Cmm 10 Jan 1943 Off# 135776. “Cats Eyes” Cunningham.
The WW2 UK press was encouraged to emphasise the “Cats Eyes” aspect in order to hide the fact that AI radar was installed in some night-fighters.
Interesting how two fellows with adjacent OR service numbers (must have been together at the Recruiting location??) had such different careers?
Won’t answer the original question, but I thought it interesting enough to post it!!!
This attitude got me into trouble all my working life!!
