Sorry Paul - re-reading my previous answer I see I gave duff gen by saying Vol 4 - the military promotions are at the end - but the end of each volume

Reading my notes at the time - the quirks are starting to come back to me - the Gazette techs happily tiptoed round them in their stride but I remember being tripped by every one!

eg Editions and Supplements had sequential numbering but Volumes were spit over seasons Jan-March Vol1, April-June Vol2, July-Sept Vol3 and Oct - Dec Vol4
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipe..._Index/19/1938

    eg
    RAF for Vol 1
    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...ume/1/page/062

    RAF for Vol 2
    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...ume/2/page/060

Same goes for Gallantry and Honours

So for your purpose you need to ferret round end of each volume.

OK Just downloaded all RAF Index foe 1938 in 4 Volumes as PDF and combined into 1 file per volume

RAF at back of volume so I started at around page 50 then it is trial and error

So this is page 56 of volume 3

    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...ume/3/page/056

I then checked a few Relinquished and Court Martials and they were in the Index

So if you know roughly when something happened it is a good way for you to find exact page in LG as it gives you the page number in index and avoid OCR errors
