Default Guy Cribb & Peter Cribb

    Gents
I am looking for information on Guy CRIBB, D.F.C. (138108). He was a No 16 Sqn pilot and I have checked London Gazette in any case. I am missing his vital details though. Also, it seems he was related to Peter Cribb, also of the RAF, but seemingly different one to Air Commodore Peter Henry Cribb (33360). Anything on the other Peter Cribb?
    Any clues?
    TIA

Could he possibly be Guy Cribb, b. Perth, Australia in 1920? There's a Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate on ancestry.co.uk for Guy Cribb with D.o.B. Sepember 6th 1920, and his certificate was taken as a Civil Pilot on February 25th 1947. He's on the 1939 Register living at 52 Priory Avenue, High Wycombe and employed as an 'Art. Pupil to Surveyor' - Art presumably short for Articled.

Post war there's a Guy Cribb, aged 30 on the ship 'Georgic' sailing from Southampton to New York in May 1951, whose address is given as 6 Eccleston Mews, London, and employed as a Pilot. Country of intended residence is recorded as Canada.

A family tree has his name recorded as Guy Peter Cribb.

    Many thanks, Simon!
Yes, this must be the Guy Cribb, who in 1948 lived at 4 West Lawn, Sandgate. A suggestion that Peter and Guy Cribb might be the same person is interesting. It seems there was no other RAF officer named Peter Cribbs except ACdre P H Cribbs, though of course he may have been an NCO.

Another brief little snippet, from the Kentish Express newspaper, January 14th 1949:

After being blown 200 miles off course, Mr. Guy Cribb, a business man from Sandgate, safely force-landed his 'plane near Mannheim in the U.S. zone of Germany.

The story was also reported in the Dundee Courier, which identifed the aircraft as a Proctor flying from Hamburg to Luxembourg.

There's also a Guy Cribb mentioned in an article in the Herts and Essex Observer newspaper of June 30th 1972, reporting the funeral of Mr. Arthur Frederick Cribb, a bachelor aged 92. The article mentions that 'the last surviving member of the family is a nephew, Guy Cribb, who now lives in Canada.'

Thanks, that must be all the same man. Cribb owned Proctor G-AIZC during 1948, but he sold it before the described flight. Must be he borrowed it or bought another one. If A F Cribb was last but one, then P H Cribb must have been another family.
I will drop you an email.

    Franek,

Re owned vs borrowed, there’s no mention of Cribb as owner of Proctor V G-AIZC on its registration form, only Basil Robert William Betts from 17/4/47 to 7/2/49 before its transfer to Flyaway Limited and reduction to produce in August 1950.

Sorry, my fault. It was Auster G-AJDV sold by Flyaway to Cribb. No idea about Proctor, then.

    Hi Simon,

Do the newspaper articles give a date for the forced landing in Germany?

    Hello Rob

The force-landing near Mannheim was January 12th 1949 according to the Dundee Courier.

I did find a snippet online taken from the Toronto Star from 2003 which records his date of death:

CRIBB, Guy, D.F.C., B.A.R. -- Who left us suddenly on May 12, 1984. His memory is as dear today as in the hour he passed away. -- Always loved by Lucille, Nicole and Mark.
