Default 144 Sqdn aircraft letters ?

    Hello,
Am seeking aircraft in Squadron letter's and/or photographs of the following H P Hampden's.
    P4347
    AD794
    AD965
    AE142
AE359 (Somewhere I recall reading it as being "W" ).

    Thanks

Hello Alex. Not that this is the answer, there were two losses on January 31/February 1,1942. Hampden AE-359 and AT-149. They were coded G and P. Not sure which letter went with what aircraft. Can send photo of document if you wish.

    Hello Richard,
    Many thanks for your response.
Where did you find the codes G and P please.

I have the ORB pages for the September 41 through to February '42. As far as I could see, (reading some of the hand written pages I found quite difficult) the aircraft serial numbers is the only detail recorded, not one aircraft in Squadron letter :(
There are Reference numbers such as A1234 through to A1417, but I have no Idea where to find those or what is there.
    Many thanks
    Alex

    Evening Alex,
Sorry, but the wreck picture only show debris of AT 149, no marking.

    Hello Richard,
I sent you a PM but your mail box is full so cannot receive my post. Basically it is the same as my reply to you at #3 above.

Nice to see some renewed interest in 144 Squadron.

My father was a pilot with the squadron from July 41 to April 42 and survived. His log book shows a number of entries for two of the aircraft you list. He does not record any Hampden recognition letters in his log book during this period. Not recording recognition letters and restricted photography at North Luffenham seem to have been considered best practice. I would be interested if you have found the recognition letter for AE395 not to be confused with AE359 in your list. AE395 was used by my father on many operations and basically his aircraft from early October 41 to January 31 42. He crashed AE395 on take off January 31 42, the same night and operation to Brest, AE359 was lost, can be confusing. His aircraft AE395 was collected from the Empingham Stamford Road and repaired but never returned to 144 Squadron. He also recorded (all OK).

    Just an update.
I have recently edited the "aviation safety. net details.
Giving the info re the aircraft ditching and not crashing in France, and also removing the "Q" from the aircraft code, as it has yet not been confirmed.
