Cause of death -
While attached to 20 OTU, suffered severe burns to the face, hands, left leg and abdomen, when petrol covered clothing caught fire on 29 January.. admitted dangerously ill to Grey's hospital, Elgin, he died of pneumonia secondary to severe burns.

St.Ives Public Cemetery, Huntingdonshire.
Cause of death -
A family tree on ancestry.co.uk records that he died of TB at Papworth Sanatorium.

Looking on the Kracker Archive on www.aircrewremembered.com the neareast match I can see is Lt. Helmut Schmidt, MIA on Ju-88 7A+AL of 3 (F)/121, lost on February 26th 1941.
No close matches using 'February 25, 1941' to search.
There is however a Paul Schmidt, aged 24, whose death was registered at Sudbury (on the Suffolk/Essex border) in the first quarter of 1941.

Do 17 Z-2 Werknummer 1134 of 4/KG2 coded 'U5+PM' was lost due to Hurricanes of 85th Sqdn. in the vicinity of Little Waldingfield, near Lavenham/Suffolk; last contact radio at 22h17 over Norwich-Catton.
