No citation in that publication; medals sold at auction by Sotheby’s, 4 March 1987 (estimated value being £ 250 to £ 300); catalogue noted he was born in South Dublin in 1917; educated at Wesley College, Dublin; home in Templeogue; enlisted in RAF 1940 (1080361). commissioned 22 August 1941. Flying Officer, 22 August 1942. Flight Lieutenant, 22 November 1943. Died in Dublin, 4 December 1982. Citation in AMB 10276.
This officer has completed a large number of operational missions as air gunner. Many of these have been attacks on heavily defended targets in the Ruhr, Berlin and Gdynia. He also took part in the 1,000 bomber raids on the Ruhr and Cologne and in the daylight raid on Milan. Throughout all these attacks Flying Officer Kirkwood-Hackett has displayed a most praiseworthy degree of courage and devotion to duty.
LUSH, Frederick George Gilbert , F/O (116914, RAFVR) - No, 97 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 18 May 1943. Born 27 October 1911, home in Plymouth. Enlisted 1940 (12005730, commissioned 24 January 1942. Attained rank of Flight Lieutenant, 21 February 1944. Resigned commission, 30 June 1953. Died in Portsmouth, January 1982. Citation in AMB 10276.
This officer has participated in a number of successful operational sorties against objectives in Germany and Italy, He has been wireless operator in an air crew outstanding in efficiency and abilty, and his own skill has played a large part in the success achieved. Excellent photographs have invariably been obtained which give evidence of a high degree of team work. Flying Officer Lush has always displayed praiseworthy courage and devotion to duty.
